Dream Town Conversation with Laura Meckler
Dream Town: Shaker Heights and the Quest for Racial Equity. Washington Post reporter Laura Meckler (Shaker Heights Class of 1986) returned to Shaker for a talk with Paul Mason to her hometown to discuss her new book, based on months of research and hundreds of interviews, on the imperfect history of Shaker Heights’ quest for racial equity in housing and education. The narrative is anchored by the stories of Shaker families and leaders, including Beverly and Ted Mason (Paul's parents) and Winston Richie Sr. (Winston's father). The talk was cosponsored by the Shaker Historical Society and The Ludlow Community Association. Check out the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umDJZiZVK54.
The talk was followed by a zoom discussion among several classmates. To view the video, you must log in.
